How to Choose a Honeymoon Destination that Suits You Both

Honeymoon Destinations Action Adventure

You love nothing more than lazing about on the beach, or on a lounger around the pool, whilst he is Mr Action-Adventure, seeking thrills and spills at every turn. It could be a recipe for holiday disaster - especially if that holiday happens to be your honeymoon! So if your interests - and holiday likes and dislikes - are poles apart, you are going to need to put that extra bit of effort into your planning!

Planning

If you fear you are never going to see eye to eye on your choice of destination, the earlier you begin your planning, the more likely you are to reach a mutually compatible conclusion!

You could start by drawing up a list of all the amenities and facilities you both definitely want from your resort, then what you do not want or require. For example, you may want a spa facility, whilst your other half wants a well equipped gym or sports club.

Your travel agent should be able to advise you on the practicalities of your wish list, and give you a choice of destinations that provide everything you're after, but if you are planning your own trip, independent of an agency, you might have to do a bit of digging...

Organising Your Trip Without an Agent

If you wish to plan and organise your own honeymoon independently of a travel agent, take care to do your research thoroughly. Don't rely solely on the internet for your fact-finding – and don't be embarrassed to visit your local holiday shop and go through the destinations pros and cons with them even if you have no intention of booking – getting some inside info on your potential resort is your priority. Take brochures away with you and do your own searches for comparable packages and accommodation – booking direct may take more time by the time you have pulled together all the different elements of your holiday, but it does mean you can personalise your break just that little bit more.

Where to Go

If agreeing where to go has reached stalemate and you've nothing but a list of likes and dislikes to show for your lengthy discussions, then it could be time to ruthlessly narrow down your search! Think outside the box – ski resorts in the summer for example, often offer beautiful walking and hiking opportunities whilst the mountain hotels and spas have luxury treatments available all year round. Look for a destination that will offer you both the chance to do things individually, whilst also having a luxury vibe so you can relax and spend quality time together as well – fine dining for example, or private beaches and coves for intimate picnics and sunbathing.

Compromise!

No one likes to have to back down and feel pressurised into doing something they don't want to do – especially not on their honeymoon! Remember you've got a life time of holidays ahead of you, be they relaxing beach ones or on-the-go action ones. Whatever your likes and dislikes and hobbies and passions are the rest of the year, choose a honeymoon destination that will stimulate, inspire, and, most of all, give you a relaxing time together that you will look back on fondly for the rest of your life!
