Honeymoon Foodie Food Holiday Wine

A honeymoon can be more than just a great holiday. If the two of you have a shared passion, aside from each other, it’s a great idea to theme your honeymoon to an idea you both really love. If cooking and eating amazing food is your thing, you’ve come to the right place. Our tips for fabulous honeymoons for foodies will give you some mouthwatering ideas to get you well on your way.

What's Your Poison?

When you’re thinking about possible destinations for your gourmet getaway consider whether it’s food or wine that floats your boat the most. You can find a honeymoon that combines the two easily enough but if your passion is fine wines, there are some destinations, like the Californian Wine Region, that you really should have add to your shortlist. Maybe you’re a huge fan of tapas, or can’t live without pasta – work out what you’re most excited about so you’ve got a starting point for your plan.

Italian Passion

Cooking schools are popping up all over Italy, so if your love for great food extends to creating meals yourself, think about signing up for a course. Whether it’s just for a day or a week’s residential stay, a cooking school is a good place to get actively involved in something you both enjoy with other likeminded folk. You’ll also return home brimming with ideas for entertaining family and friends – beats coming back with just a fading tan to show for your honeymoon.

Wine Trail

Serious wine lovers need look no further than New Zealand, Australia, South Africa or the US for a range of fantastic wine tours. If you’d rather stay closer to home why not consider France? Wherever you choose, the combination of amazing scenery, wine tastings and, of course, the chance to stock up for your return journey, makes a wine tour a deliciously different idea for your honeymoon shortlist.

Eat, Drink and be Merry

If eating, rather than cooking, is your thing, then head for a destination famous for fresh, creative food. Think Hong Kong or China for incredible Eastern street cuisine, or, staying in Europe, head to one of the Greek islands and sample local dishes made with home grown ingredients from old family recipes. For sheer variety you could visit California, where fresh fruit and vegetables grow plentifully and some great restaurants can be found. Fish lovers might consider Portugal or the Spanish islands for regional dishes like salt cod or freshly cooked sardines.

Wherever you go on your honeymoon, ask around for recommendations for the best local restaurants and any local vineyards. You’ll often find amazing places to eat situated off the beaten track, best for great food and undiscovered by tourists not adventurous enough to look further than the local town. If you plan to bring back bottles of newly discovered wines, remember to check out your luggage allowance before you buy. All that remains is to book that trip – hopefully we’ve given you some food for thought.
