Honeymoons British Honeymoon Packages

Honeymoons aren't always about far flung exotic locations - the whole notion of Britain as a honeymoon destination is alive and kicking and should most definitely be added as a possibility to your honeymoon ideas list!

When you're in the midst of planning your honeymoon and dreaming about all the luxury resorts and paradise islands out there, the temptation to grab the glossiest, most expensive and palm-tree heavy brochures from the travel agents shelf is overwhelming - the mental image of honeymoons is, after all, all about the white sands, endless blue skies and those ubiquitous palms trees swaying gently in the breeze...

With that in mind, the thought of staying in Great Britain can be a bit of a climb down, but it doesn't have to be!

With some of the most beautiful countryside, lakes and seaside resorts in the whole of Europe, honeymooning in Britain needn't be a second best - or 'make do' option. With some stunning coastline, lush countryside and amazing areas of outstanding natural beauty, you can have a wonderful honeymoon break without the long-haul price tag.

Deciding on a Location

If you've always holidayed abroad, you might think Britain has little to offer for a break as special as your honeymoon, but be prepared to be surprised! Contact tourist boards for the areas you are interested in to ask about off-the-beaten track hotels or self catering cottages, and do your research on places of interest and things to do locally.

Think too about how you'll travel to your destination - taking the train for instance could make for a more interesting and relaxing journey.

Three of the Best

The English Riveria:Popular for centuries, and nicknamed The English Riviera by the Victorians, this twenty two mile stretch of British coastline in South Devon takes some beating as a honeymoon destination! It has even got the palm trees and sub tropical plants! Check out Torquay, Paignton and Brixham for some gorgeous seafront hotels and soak up the whole areas Mediterranean feel.

The Lake District:Perfect for a really romantic, get away from it all honeymoon break! The Lake District in North West England is famed the world over for its mountains and lakes - and its many associations with writers, artists and poets! The Lake District National Park is its most famous centre and attracts hundreds of thousands of tourists every year. Attractions include Scafell Pike, England's highest mountain. Hotels and self catering cottages are prevalent throughout the area, making it the ideal British honeymoon destination!

The Scottish Highlands:Rugged, windswept and affording stunning scenery and views, you can't get much more wild and heady a location than the beautiful Highlands of Scotland! Stay in a castle, a crofters cottage or a luxury hotel and completely lose yourself in the outstanding vistas that will surround you! Steeped in history, and with wonderful hospitality always on offer, you are sure to return time and time again!

With so many different types of accommodation, resorts and towns and cities available to you, Great Britain should definitely make your honeymoon short-list - it's just narrowing your choice down that you might struggle with!
