Probably the last thing you want to commit to on your honeymoon is daily slogs in the gym, but if you've been paying particular attention to your fitness and nutrition in the run up to your wedding, you'll no doubt want to minimise the effects of any holiday blow outs and excesses!

Why Exercise?

It's no secret that a healthy diet and gentle exercise has a huge effect on our well being, promoting health and vitality. Eating healthily can be difficult when we're away, and a honeymoon will be no exception, particularly on all inclusive packages where snacks and tempting buffets can prove hard to resist. Combined with lounging about on the beach, and indulging in poolside cocktails, lethargy, bloating and tiredness can soon set in! Exercising and keeping fit on holiday doesn't have to be about power packed workouts in the gym or intense exercise classes. As well as energising and motivating us, moderate exercise can also regulate blood sugar levels which could help to prevent diabetes, and encourages bone density which protects against osteoporosis. Not only that, but exercise helps to increase HDL levels which help cut the risk of developing heart disease.

Easy Ways to Sneak in Exercise!

You don't have to be leaping out of bed and heading off to the gym every day of your honeymoon in order to keep fit and healthy. 'Sneaking' in exercise in enjoyable ways is the best way to maintain your fitness without feeling like you're embarking on a marathon training session. However, if you wish to keep up your usual exercise routine, there is no reason why you shouldn't - as long as it doesn't impinge negatively on your honeymoon!

Swimming

Swimming is a fantastic all round exercise and can be as gentle or energetic as you make it. Whether you are relaxing in the pool doing a gentle breast stroke, or up at the crack of dawn getting in twenty lengths, you will still find therapeutic and health benefits. Very gentle swimming will keep you relaxed and supple; more energetic pool based workouts will keep your heart rate up, your fitness levels maintained, and will burn off calories.

Walking

Walking is a great way to keep fit, burn calories and get around! And on your honeymoon it is the best way to see the sights too! Even walking along the beach or around places of interest will keep your fitness levels up - just make sure you have good, comfortable, supportive footwear to keep a spring in your step!

Cycling

Cycling is a fun way to get around and keep fit at the same time. Enquire about hiring bikes at your honeymoon destination and let pedal power keep you in peak condition and transport you around your resort! Wear practical, comfortable clothes and don't forget your cycling helmet!

You don't want to turn your honeymoon into a two week fitness drive, but you can take practical and easy steps to ensure you stay fit and healthy throughout your trip and beyond!
